Scaled Scoring Explained. Why does the NSCA use scaled scoring?

The Certified Performance and Sport Scientist (CPSS) is a practitioner with training and applied experiences across the scientific disciplines applicable to sport science and athletic performance (i.e., generalist) or predominantly within a select few (i.e., specialist). These scientific disciplines, as related to sports performance, include, but are not limited to: biomechanics, data science, nutrition, physiology, psychology, research methods, and strength and conditioning. A CPSS demonstrates competency in the application of scientific disciplines, assessment, training theory and process, needs analysis, monitoring, communication, and education with the primary goal of safely and effectively improving athletic performance.

Tactical Strength and Conditioning Facilitators® are professionals in tactical fields (e.g., military, fire and rescue, law enforcement and other professions) who apply scientific knowledge to improve performance, promote wellness and decrease injury risk. These Tactical Strength and Conditioning Facilitators help their peers improve on-the-job physical performance and reduce time off due to injury. In July, the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) announced that by 2030 (target date) the eligibility for the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS®) examination will require candidates to gradate with a bachelor’s degree in a strength and conditioning related field, from a program accredited by an NSCA-approved accrediting agency.

In July 2018, the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) announced that by 2030 (target date) the eligibility for the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS®) examination will require candidates to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in a strength and conditioning related field, from a program accredited by an NSCA-approved accrediting agency. The development of the NSCA approved accrediting agency is currently underway and is expected to be fully functional by 2021, with the first program targeted to be accredited in 2022.

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Membership and Business Development, the Business Development Coordinator’s primary responsibilities are to contribute to the implementation and growth of programs and services for NSCA’s coaching, personal training, tactical, and sport science audiences.
